what is Bulk freezer meat?

Why buy meat one piece at a time in the grocery store when you can save some dough?

At first, the idea of owning a large deep freezer was new for me, but now it's a blessing in disguise. With a treasure trove of meat cuts at my fingertips, I’ve left grocery store meat in the rearview mirror for years.

How can you save money?

Buying in bulk allows you to purchase premium cuts at the same price as basic cuts (think NY Strip the same price per pound as hamburger). Wilson Family Farms offers customized orders, where you can select the cuts and thickness you want. Buying a half or whole animal and dividing it with others is also a cost-effective option. Your meat is processed locally and dry-aged before cutting.

  • Beef and pork is available ONCE A YEAR in the fall.

  • Lamb and goat is available year round.

WHAT’s THE PRICE?

Price is determined from the hanging weight multiplied by the price per pound.

example: 500lbs x $7.00/lb = $3,500

What’s the hanging weight? The animal is delivered to the local butcher and weighed, this is called the live weight. The animal is then dressed with all major parts and internal organs removed, but prior to processing into individual cuts. The carcass is weighed again giving the hanging weight. This is the weight measurement for selling by the quarter, half, or whole animal.
