BUYING PORK

A whole pork is made of two “halves” (each side of the pig neck to tail), and each half can be divided once more into quarters.

A typical whole hog is a live weight of 250-350 pounds, and a hanging weight of 180-200lbs.

The TAKE HOME amount is about 30% less once cuts are made.

You’ll receive a take-home average of:

  • Whole: about 120-140lbs

  • Half: about 60-70lbs

  • Quarter: about 30lbs

*This estimation is approximate and varies.

    FREEZER SPACE

The rule of thumb is one cubic foot of freezer space for every 35 – 40 pounds of packaged meat. 50 pounds of pork can fit in an empty, average-size home freezer with 2.25 cubic feet of space.

COST

Each buyer is responsible for their share of the cost of the animal and the butcher processing.
Price is calculated based on price per pound x the hanging weight (head, legs, and internal organs removed).
